Ongoing Studies
Insomnia Treatment Study
Purpose: We are currently seeking participants for a study examining the effect of an FDA approved medication suvorexant, on sleep disturbance in Veterans with post-traumatic stress.
Criteria: Age 18-75. U.S. male or female veterans with posttraumatic stress symptoms and trouble falling/staying asleep throughout California and North Carolina.
This study can be completed from home and involves:
- A phone call to see if this study is a fit
- Completing sleep and posttraumatic stress symptom assessment(s)
- Participating in 4-7 video visits or phone calls from home over a period of 14 weeks
- Taking the study medication for 12 weeks
- Keeping track of your sleep
Compensation: Up to $500

COVID-19 Study
Purpose: To understand how people who have experienced prior stress may be impacted by the threat of COVID-19.
Criteria: Age 18-50. Veterans or civillians. Men and women. Participated in Stress and Resilience Study.
This Study Involves:
- An online survey that may take an hour to complete
Compensation: Up to $20 in the form of a gift card. In the future, you may also be invited to participate in additional follow up surveys in the future to earn up to a total of $60.

Mobile Health Study
Purpose: Can technology be used to help improve PTSD symptoms? Participate in research to help us better understand post-traumatic stress, and to develop new and more effective treatments.
Criteria: Men and women over 18 who have experienced a traumatic or life threatening event during military service and undergoing prolonged exposure or cognitive processing therapy.
This Study Involves:
- Wearing a mobile research-grade wristband that can obtain physiological signals for study duration
- Completing questionaires about health and stress
Compensation: Up to $100 in the form of a gift card

Women's Health Study
You may be eligible to participate in research to better understand post-traumatic stress, and to develop new and more effective treatments. The San Francisco VA Medical Center is conducting a study that examines stress responses during a simple computer task.
Purpose: To understand sex differences in stress and resilience
Criteria: Age 18-50. Veterans or civillians. Women.
This Study Involves:
- Visiting the VA 4 times
- 4 blood draws
- Computer-based learning tasks
- Completing questionaires
Optional Tasks:
- Providing saliva samples
- Wearing a watch that tracks movement
- Telling us about your sleep
- Completing memory games
Compensation: Up to $225
